Next Saturday, July13, we’ve picked a “cool” repeat hike, at the Blue Ridge Tunnel. For once we won’t hike atop the Blue Ridge, but through it, Opened about three years ago, the nearly 170 year old tunnel was the first of its kind when it was finished in 1858 and was used until replaced about 80 years ago. This is an easy 4.6 mile out-and-back, starting from the Afton Mountain trailhead, on the east side of the ridge. The tunnel is an excellent place to hike in hot weather, but it is dark: please bring headlamps or flashlights.
Afterwards we can enjoy lunch together at Blue Mountain Brewery
Meet at 10am on Saturday, July 13, at Afton Mountain Trailhead, 215 Afton Depot Ln, Afton, VA 22920
