Research & Survey Opportunities
Researchers and educators thank you for your willingness to participate in their research projects about different aspects of your Camino. Your participation is voluntary. We never share our mailing list.
Have you walked or are you planning to walk the Camino after ending a long-term partnership, marriage, or family relationship?
Kathleen Jenkins, a sociologist at William & Mary who studies pilgrimage, is looking for research participants to share their story of walking after ending a relationship with kin.
All interviews are confidential.
If you are interested in hearing more about being a part of the study, please contact Kathleen at kejenk@wm.edu or provide your contact information through this link: https://wmsas.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b1p69xsYF3XTkcS and Kathleen will contact you after your Camino.
Please consider sharing this information on your Camino social media for others who might be interested.
El Camino: The Tourismization of Spirituality - Miguel De La Torre, researcher
Please consider taking this survey on walking the Camino. Your participation is crucial for gaining a better understanding of the demographics of individuals from the United States who typically walk the Camino, as well as their motivations for undertaking this journey.
This survey aims to achieve the following objectives:
- Identify the demographic characteristics of individuals more inclined to walk El Camino;
- Explore the motivations driving people to undertake the El Camino journey;
- Investigate the challenges faced during the walk along El Camino; and
- Examine the religious and political affiliations of those who typically embark on the El Camino pilgrimage.
You should not encounter any risk or very little discomfort in completing the survey. Of course, you always have the right to skip a question for any reason. This survey should take you about 15 minutes to complete. The survey is anonymous and will not collect any identifiable information. Responses will be received with Internet Protocol Addresses (IP) absent.

(Non)attachment - Snežana Brumec, researcher
I warmly invite everyone, whether you've walked the Spanish Camino or not, to participate in a survey regarding (non)attachment and life satisfaction.
Follow this link to the questionnaire: https://1ka.arnes.si/a/391bd8f1.
It should take about 10 minutes to complete, and while I understand that 10 minutes may seem lengthy in today's fast-paced world, I genuinely appreciate your time and participation. It's important to note that the survey is completely anonymous.
About the questionnaire: Based on my research on pilgrims thus far, it appears that pilgrimage experiences may reduce attachment to various aspects of life. With this survey, I aim to delve deeper into this phenomenon. The questionnaire covers topics such as attachment style, non-attachment (drawing from the Buddhist concept), and life satisfaction.
These three questionnaires are standardized. Additionally, there's a section on meditation, as both meditation and certain life events are believed to reduce attachment.
I believe that spending these 10 minutes in self-reflection while completing the questionnaire can be valuable for the respondent too. Therefore, I highly recommend participation. Thank you sincerely for your consideration and time.
What Happens Next?
We request all researchers submit their research project results for publication in La Concha. You'll be able to read the results when published.
Thank you for your participation.
