 mal pilgrim walk! One might call it more of an excursion! Join fellow pi
 lgrims for a short walk in Chippokes State Park to the beach where we wi
 ll be able to find Chesapecten Jeffersonius\, which are extinct prehisto
 ric scallop shells. Many have worn these shells on their pilgrimage\, a 
 symbolic tie between Virginia and Santiago.\n\nIf you don't have a VA St
 ate Park Pass\, the parking fee is $7.  Bring cash as the front gate is
  not normally staffed. Go straight after the front gate and continue dow
 n\, making a right on Plantation Road (there's an old-timey tractor on t
 he corner). Go straight for almost a mile and you will see the Farm Muse
 um on your right\, and a small parking lot on your left. Park in the lot
 \; we will gather there. If there isn't enough parking (because others a
 rrive before us)\, we will direct you where to park and can shuttle folk
 s. \n\nLow tide is at approx. 12:30 pm\, which will give us plenty of t
 ime to walk down the beach to a prime collecting spot. The beach is abou
 t 1/3 mile (asphalt) from the parking lot\, then we will walk approximat
 ely .5 miles down the beach (sand). There are other fossils to collect\,
  so bring a bag or backpack\, a bottle of water and perhaps a snack.
